India expels US embassy officer with similar rank to Devyani Khobragade

New Delhi: India has expelled a US embassy official of a rank similar that of Indian counsellor Devyani Khobragade.
The move came after India recalled Khobragade to New Delhi following her indictment on charges of visa fraud in the US.
People close to the development said India’s move was based on the principle of reciprocity.
“ We have reason to believe that the (US) officer was closely involved in processes related to case under consideration and the subsequent unilateral action by the US side,” a person close to the development said
